Happiness And Self Power

People today appear to have lost direction in their lives, they lack enthusiasm and zest for life, failing to display gratitude for all the good things they already have in their life, like good health, partners, children, neighbours and friends as well as the life they have made for themselves through their work and achievements. To attract more happiness and success you must first be grateful for what you already have, this is lesson number one.

As consumerism takes over and the pursuit of money becomes more important today than good relationships and time spent with others, we must all be aware and not lose sight of exactly what life is all about, otherwise we are doomed to become trapped in a vicious circle of never having enough money to buy the bigger house, the newer car, luxurious holidays and designer clothes. I am not saying that you shouldn’t desire all these material possessions and a better lifestyle for ourselves, that is all possible when you shift your power to self power.

Let us take a look at what self power relates to. It means that our internal reference point is our own self, our spirit. The opposite of self-referral is object-referral. In object-referral we are always influenced by objects outside the self, which include money, status, titles, circumstances, people, and things. In object-referral we are constantly seeking the approval of others to determine our self worth.

Power based on object-referral, however, is false power. Being ego-based power, it lasts only as long as the object of reference is there. If you have a certain title – if you’re the president of the country or the chairman of a corporation – or if you have a lot of money, the power you enjoy goes with the title, with the job, with the money. Ego-based power will only last as long as those things last. As soon as the title, the job, the money go away, so does the power.

Self power, your true self, which is your spirit, your soul, is completely free of those things. It is immune to criticism, it is fearless of any challenge, and it feels beneath no one. And yet, it is also humble and feels superior to no one, because it recognizes that everyone else is the same Self, the same spirit in different disguises.

Self power, is permanent, because it is based on the knowledge of the self. And there are certain characteristics of self power. It draws people to you, and it also draws things that you want to you. It magnetizes people, situations, and circumstances to support your desires. This is also called support from the laws of nature. It is the support of divinity; it is the support that comes from being in the state of grace. Your power is such that you enjoy a bond with people, and people enjoy a bond with you.

Self power therefore is that of bonding with others – a bonding that comes from demonstrating love to other people. This can only be established when you are as a person completely at one with yourself, good self esteem, confidence and self belief, and from this strong secure power base you understand that in order to receive more happiness, more success you have to be very grateful for all the good things you already have in your life. Start with demonstrating gratitude and you will attract happiness and success from the energy you are sending out.

Here are a few quotes taken from my book Simple Steps to Happiness that should help you to understand the importance of firstly loving yourself and then giving out love to others;
Happiness is achieved when you live by and demonstrate the three R’s
respect for self, respect for others, and responsibility for all your actions

Happiness is further achieved when your life is balanced and you feel good physically, mentally and emotionally about yourself, watch your confidence grow

We actually manufacture our own unhappiness by thinking unhappy thoughts – like; anger, hatred, I fear this, I’m worried about that. Replace with pleasant thoughts of love, kindness and generosity

Be positive to every person you come into contact with – remember your attitude is what marks your character, and when there’s righteousness and love in your dealings with others, there is happiness.

Give out something of yourself daily – a compliment, a favour, offer your time to help out willingly – make a mental note of how it makes you feel when you consciously help others

Make every person you meet or speak with, feel important, feel special, they will like you for the attention and kindness you show towards them, and what’s more you win friends

Count your blessings everyday – happiness comes from realising just how fortunate you are in life, there is always someone worse off than yourself, remember that

Happiness comes from seeing smiling faces of young children and babies – puts a lot of life’s problems you think you have, in perspective.

Happiness comes from making a difference to someone else’s life, some who maybe thinks, they have been forgotten, and no one cares, brighten their day

Your life will change when you change your attitude towards yourself and others.
